The Port of Philadelphia covers the western side of the Delaware River. Much freight traffic comes
and goes on ships. A PWRR car ferry brings freight from the Camden, NJ side of the river. The
following are the waterfront industries.
The PDQ Shipping Co. ships and receives cargo. Also, the Sun Import/Export Co. ships and receives
freight on a regular basis.
Municipal Pier No12 is owned by the City of Philadelphia and is used by the PWRR for shipping and
receiving by ship. The PWRR intermodal facility loads and unloads freight on containers and truck
Breyers Ice Cream is a venerable Philly industry. It takes in milk products and produces ice cream.
Milk cars bring the milk and cream and reefers deliver the ice cream products. Products ship to NJ,
Harrisburg and are shipped from the port.
The Concor Paint Co. accepts petroleum products from tank cars and covered
hoppers and delivers its paint products via box cars.
The Philadelphia Electric Co. needs shipments of coal via hoppers.
Bud's Machine shop ships tool and die products via box cars.
The Tasty Baking Co. is a Philadelphia landmark. They take in raw food products
and produce many varieties of cake products. They ship by box cars.
Rink's Run Refinery produces oil products and is serviced by tank cars.
